Founded in 1965, by a group of concerned neighbors and activists that included Peter Detmold (Detmold Park) and James Amster (Amster Yards), the Turtle Bay Tree Fund is an all-volunteer organization that provides seasonal plantings in tree beds, and works to maintain the trees, flower beds, and enclosures.
We are among the largest neighborhood organizations of this type, with responsibility for nearly 250 plantings in the area from 48th to 51st streets, from Third Avenue to the East River.
The Tree Fund is a tax-exempt association that raises funds from neighborhood residents and others who care about street trees. Virtually all money raised is paid out for professional landscaping services.
